New Library Classes Timetable

The timetable for library classes has been revised, and now includes two different classes (one for Arts students & one for Business students), which both incoporate referencing, electronic resources & essay writing.

Please contact the Library the day before to confirm that the class will be going ahead, as classes are subject to a minimum attendance of 5 students.

Opening Hours

Both Aungier St. and Dame St. Libraries will open from 9am, Monday - Friday, for the first two weeks of December.

Weekend opening hours are:
Saturday: 9:30am - 5pm
Sunday (2nd & 9th Dec) - 11am - 5pm

Laptop lending service

The laptop lending service at Aungier Street is being discontinued due to difficulties encountered while operating the scheme. Assignment and Internet Pcs are available in the meantime.

Plagiarism & Referencing Class in Postgraduate Library

A class on Plagiarism & Academic referencing will be held on Friday 30th November in Dame st room 3.1 at 1.30.

The class will cover
· Defining plagiarism (and consequences of plagiarism for postgrad students)
· Ways to avoid plagiarism (Paraphrasing, summarising)
· How to cite sources
· Harvard Referencing style

All postgraduate students who are unsure about plagiarism and correct referencing are welcome to attend however MBA International students are particularly encouraged to attend and reminded that they must attend a class on plagiarism before laptops can be borrowed.

Library I.T. Services

There may be some disruption to I.T. services in the library over the coming few weeks due to a significant upgrade of the computer services in the college. This work is being carried out to ensure that high quality and stable computer services are provided to students. The improvements include upgrading of the cabling in the Aungier St and Dame St buildings, as well as a review of the wireless network in Aungier Street to improve speed and connectivity.


We apologise for any inconvenience caused to students in the interim.

New Information Point at Main Issue Desk

A new Information Point has been set up at the Main Issue Desk in Aungier Street Library to facilitate students with queries relating to all aspects of library services, including databases, researching and library classes. The Information Point is located at the right hand side of the issue desk.

New Database Trials

Three new databases are accessible through EBSCO for a trial period:

Computers & Applied Sciences Complete
Film & Television Literature Index with Full Text
Communication & Mass Media Complete

To access the databases, please log on to EBSCO in the usual way (see the DBS Library Off Campus databases web page for more information) and click on the 'Trial Access...' link in the list of available databases.

Access to Portobello Library for DBS Students

With the recent acquisition of Portobello College, DBS students now have access to the library in Portobello College and vice versa. From January, Portobello’s holdings will also be accessible through the DBS online library catalogue. Please ask a member of staff for further information.

New Issue Desk - Monday 22nd October

A new issue desk is being installed in the main library on Monday morning, October 22nd. During this time there may be some disruption to normal library services. The short loan desk will be in operation for borrowing Standard Loan as well as Short Loan/Restricted Access books. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Britannica Online Academic Edition

A trial of Britannica Online Academic Edition is now available on campus at DBS Library. Britannica Online allows users to search or browse for information in encyclopedias, magazines, videos, and web sites. Access is available until November 7th 2007.

A guided tour of the online encyclopedia is available here in PDF format.

E-books now available at DBS Library

E-Books are now available through DBS Library, to avail of this service students will need to obtain an individual username and password. To receive log-in details please e-mail the library (quoting your student number) or ask a member of staff for more information.
