Noisy road works close to AS library

Dear students, please beware that Dublin City Council will be doing some road works on Diggs Lane from Tuesday 3rd May until May 20th and that it could mean some noise in AS Library above.

May Bank Holiday Opening

I love these four day weeks and I wish that there were more of them. Anyway, we continue to be open 7 days a week right now, hence on Sunday (01/05) and Bank Holiday Monday (02/05) we will be open from 11am to 5pm. The Aungier St. building will be open from 8.00am to 7.00pm if you wish a few extra hours study outside of the library opening.

Doubling of fines - a reminder

As previously noted, from tomorrow fines for standard, week and short loan books will double for the duration of the exam period. We do this with the best of intentions; to try to ensure fair access to library materials for all students.

OpenAthens

If you have an OpenAthens account but are having difficulties with your username and/or password, here are two ways of circumventing that problem:

1) Your username always starts dbs... so if your student number is 1234567, your OpenAthens username will be dbs1234567. Simples. If you enter dbs and nothing happens, remember, you need to request an OpenAthens account from the library.

2) If you can't remember your password, there's a page on the MyAthens website where you can reset your password. Under the login boxes, there is a link Login help On this page, under the section Forgotten passwords is another link where you can reset your Athens password.

Print it yourself!

No, this is not a post about Papercut printing system but about the 'Print It Yourself!' exhibition that 1st year DBS Arts students put on at the Film Base on Thursday 14th April. While each of the 29 students had chosen one single picture to be exhibited, the rest of their photogarphy project was available to all visitors via the book they each published.
Lecturer Dragana Jurisic set up the project and will give us more details about it in our next Library newsletter, so stay tuned and congrats to all the students for all the great work presented that night!

Seating spaces in the libraries

As your exams are approaching fast it is great to see you all so dedicated to your studies and coming to the Library every day, so we're also appealing to your sense of comradeship and that you do not leave all your study materials on the desk while you wander off the streets of Dublin for your lunch break, an hour long call to your mate, or... a pint.

If you are leaving the Library for more than 30 min, please do take your stuff with you as you're otherwise preventing a fellow student to seat down and study!
So please be kind... give each other space and remember that starting from next week (18th April) and until the end of the exam period we will have additional empty classrooms available for you to study.

Thank you very much and all the very best for your exams!

Avoid fines, especially when they double during exam time!

It is soon the time for your summer exams to start (good luck!) so to prevent more stress here are a few tips to avoid having to pay fines on overdue library items, especially because fines double during exam time (so that we can ensure fair and equitable access to library materials to all of you!)

Library books can be renewed:
- online (click on the 'Access my library account' icon on the library website and login with the same login as your Moodle logins)
- at the self-issuing stations with your student card
- by telephoning the relevant library site (01-417 7572 for AS library / 01-417 8745 for DS library)

The doubling of fines for 2011 will start being enforced on Thursday 21st April 2011.

Standard Loan (2-week) €1.20/day/book

7-day Loan €1.20/day/book

3-day Loan €3.00/day/book

1-day Loan (DVDs) €5.00/day/DVD

And remember, fines are charged on each item returned late and overdue items may not be renewed where a library account has a fine balance exceeding €5.00.

SPSS training session

An SPSS training session has been organised by our colleague from the Business/IT school on Tuesday April 12th, from 4.30pm until 5.45pm in one of Castle House computer labs.
If you are interesting in attending this training session, please contact us at library@dbs.ie with "SPSS training session" in the object of your email (please note that places are limited to 25)

Mintel

Mintel is a market research database that provides access to reports on consumer behaviour, product innovation and competitive marketing strategies. It is currently accessed via a link on Moodle. We have to change this however. Shortly, the link on Moodle will be removed. Instead on-campus, you will directly access Mintel via a link on the e-library page of the library website. If you want to access Mintel off-campus, talk to us about getting an Open Athens account set up (and you really should you know) or alternatively you should soon be able to access Mintel from the search box on the library home page. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but if you get an Open Athens account, you'll hopefully see it's no inconvenience at all really.
